Warmest greetings and Malaysia MADANI greetings towards empowering digitalization and sustainability.

First and foremost, I would like to express my highest appreciation for the dynamic role played by the Legal Office of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), which continues to steadfastly safeguard the legal and governance administration of the University, in tandem with the evolution of the country’s higher education legal landscape.

Looking ahead towards 2030, the global landscape of Higher Education is undergoing a rapid phase of transformation. Universities are no longer merely competing globally, but are also navigating an era of intensive digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), and holistic sustainability. These changes demand a major shift in how a university operates. Naturally, these transformations necessitate legal advisory within a new ecosystem that is becoming increasingly complex. AI policies, digital contract laws, intellectual property (IP) rights in an era of advanced technology, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms have now become critical instruments in steering the University’s strategic legal direction.

All these advancements in this new era require the USM Legal Office to remain agile in delivering high-quality governance rooted in integrity, expert advice, and excellence-driven legal services to protect the best interests of the entire University community. In confronting these challenges, I am confident that the USM Legal Office can further empower contemporary legal advice and programs for the University’s Top and Middle Management, as well as for staff and students.

Beyond that, in line with USM’s status as an APEX University centered on sustainability and social responsibility, these high-impact services should be propelled beyond campus borders for the benefit of the community at large. The USM Legal Office must be courageous in pioneering new frontiers, leading transformative activities, and acting as an agent of change for the common good.

In conclusion, I place high confidence that the USM Legal Office will continue to strengthen and expand its legal and governance knowledge and advisory, ensuring that the University moves toward a sustainable, resilient, and prosperous future.

Thank you.
